Throw a pot at Coffi Troddi on 16th September

Come and try your luck at throwing a clay pot

Rosey will be bringing in her potter’s wheel and some clay for everyone to have some fun trying to stop their pot wobbling off the wheel.  Don’t worry!  We’ll have some plastic down on the floor to protect it from any messy efforts.Even if you don’t want to get your hands covered in clay, it’ll be great fun watching everyone else and at the same time you can enjoy a lovely slice of cake and a nice cuppa – tea or coffee as you wish.

Usual time on Saturday 16th September, open 10:30 until noon.

All the fun of the Fayre

There was something for everyone at Mitchel Troy Village Fayre – with traditional games,

a dog show, with a delightful collection of dogs of all shapes and sizes, with best in Show won by Max, a golden retriever belonging to Helen Elkins,

a tombola run by Mitchel Troy Pre-School and a raffle with some brilliant prizes donated by our sponsors – Handyman House, Green & Jenks, Millbrook Garden Centre, Paws, Premier Inn, Ancre Hill and Cllr. Richard John. Millbrook Garden Centre also sponsored the children’s Sow & Grow competition.  A separately raffled hamper, with charcuterie donated by Trealy Farm, organic veg donated by Square Farm and eggs donated by Helen Atton from Wonastow Mill, was very popular.

Other stalls included some wonderful face-painting, as shown on the front page of the Monmouthshire Beacon, a colourful and interesting stand from local charity, Hands Around the World, and a raffle of the harvest hamper from Jake Elliott that grew his £1 to well over £11 for his school.

Jake also won the children’s ladder game and his puppy Sky came second in the waggiest tail.

Meanwhile, inside the Hall the Village Produce Association stall advertised their Summer Show (in the Hall on Saturday August 19th), the cake stall with cakes donated by members of the Committee and others did a roaring trade and cups of tea and cream teas proved very popular.  As the afternoon drew on, the bar opened and the appetising smells from the BBQ reminded everyone to get a drink and relax with sausages & burgers.

Community Projects for the Village Hall

Community Projects

We have been thinking about the Community Projects that we will make a start on during June’s Coffi Troddi, 10:30 – 12 noon, on Saturday 17th June, as it is on this week-end that the commemoration of the life of Jo Cox, M.P. takes place throughout the UK with various community events.  We had lots of ideas for our Art Project and Garden Project put forward at the Village Lunch and the discussions continued at the May Coffi Troddi.

For the Art Project, we will carry on developing our ideas at the June Coffi Troddi.  We realised that whatever we decided upon would be a task that would take time, with folk doing some of their contribution at home, and that this would be more of a winter pursuit than a summer one.  So come along to the June Coffi Troddi and help us to develop this project into an imaginative artwork for the Village Hall hallway.

For the Garden Project, the first step will be to clear away all the weeds and brambles and then to see what we have left.  David Llewellyn will use his power scythe to clear the site before the June Coffi Troddi, so that on 17th June we can have a really good look at it.  Anyone with long handled loppers and secateurs will be welcome that morning to have a go at tidying back the trees, both on that site behind the water works and along the bottom of the car park.  But what we also will need is your ideas for use of the site as  well as how to make it safe, attractive and easy to maintain.
